After 21 Club is where Friday meets you on the way to life’s little pleasures. Reviews, recommendations, thoughts, and your comments to share with multiple generations.
Thanks, Beth. We have hit a string of good movies lately! One more coming next week.... I was going to add to this week's list, but it was starting to look like movie overload lol.
I'd heard about the movies, but never watched them. My sister said The Burial was pretty great, though. And I wouldn't have minded if this had been a post about movies. I would've enjoyed it as I'm an avid movie watcher. And Michael Pena was AWESOME in Jack Ryan. I LURVED that show. John Krasinski was a welcome surprise in that series. I knew he was in "13 Hours in Benghazi", so maybe that's where it started? I could not do Alaska, off grid or otherwise. I just can't handle the cold. I could probably do the off-grid thing, though, if I was born into it or had started as early as Shannon had before the internet (can't miss what you never had, right?). That was a great story. Thanks for sharing her story. I loved the fact that the wolf represented a deceased loved one. Such imagery there!
Hi Ororo. I'm glad you love movies! I do too! I've got another pretty awesome one coming up next week....hope you like it! Would love to hear your suggestions!
I'm with you on Alaska. Brrrr. Although Shannon is amazing. And the wolf story was wonderful. What a different life, right?
Great Friday posting, Heather! I, too, loved the film Peanut Butter Falcon. So funny and so inspiring. The relationship that developed between that misfit man and the boy was magical. Thanks, too, for reminding me about the throat singing. I explored that a long time ago and had forgotten. You might also be interested in Saami Joik singing ( ancient Lapland music) . Have a listen. There are modern versions, too, but I love this old stuff.
I had watched a performance of two female throat singers, who were sharing the cultural history with their audience. It was quite different than the men that I've watched.
Must admit, that whole sore throat thing did cross my mind as I was listening.
I could make a lot of rubles taking a suitcase full of Fisherman’s Friend lozenges to northern Siberia, but already have more rubles than I will ever need.
This came in the nick of time! We have a week to do idle play, and you've given us some great movies to watch. So thank you! I will also check out Cartwright's books and buy some for my granddaughter. They look beautiful, and I love to support an artist such as Cartwright (not that my support means much, but it's a small vote that says, "Keep doing what you're doing."
And my dear Heather, the same goes for you! great work. happy holidays!
You should be a movie critic! Fascinating reviews. Look forward to watching!

I owe thanks to Mr. Switter for Throat Singing and to you for Joik singing. It's beautiful. How did you come upon it?
There are sorta female throat singers in Siberia and apparently they do it to keep warm.

It may not be everybody’s favorite peanut butter, but it’s a nice change from Taylor Swift. And the girl drum player is gifted.
Who knew life at -70 in a frozen yak skin tent village could be so much fun, although I do worry about the availability of throat lozenges out there.

I can't remember. I think I just accidentally found it wandering around on youtube. You know how THAT is....
Oh no, I have NO IDEA!!!! Ha Ha!
