tres cool in an overwhlemingly neurodivergent way!

Hey, no offense. Partnered to an Aspie x 33 years. Many substackers have that ket me show you all the cool rabbit holes I disappeared down.

It's just too muxh to digest and intersoersing the dense thicket of words with images doesnt help.

How about ghoti? Gh as in rough. O as in women. Ti as in nation. I am also for making all irregular nouns regular. Mouse, mice; house, hice. Goose, geese; moose, meece.

The English language is basically a fixer-upper with a great view.

Yes, you can see the possibilities! ROUGH becomes RUF (so much shorter!). The TI sounds is replaced by SH....NASHUN (with a line over the A to give it the long A sound).

Oh boy, irregular nouns....now that's another possibility entirely!

PS - Welcome home!

Cool alphabet. I like it. I am not sure, but I think spelling, like language itself, evolves slowly over time. Can you just go in and decree it changed? Also, how will we write the OO sound as in cook and foot? Or the same sound in should, could? Consortium becomes consorshum, right? Fun

Completely agree....language has evolved over a very long time. I found it fascinating to go exploring into the history of letters and words.

This being just for fun.... it's a challenge to figure out how to deal with sounds like the ones you have suggested....the OO in cook and foot, should or could.

Right now the OO sound is being used for the sound in COOL or FOOL... and even the old word GHOUL would now be GOOL.

The short U makes a sound as in CUD or MUD, so that won't work for COOK or FOOT. We need something to represent the vowel sound in COOK, FOOT, LOOK, etc.

I like the idea of using 'OU' together to make that sound. (the short O and the short U together sound like the OO in FOOT). So COOK would become COUK, FOOT would become FOUT.

This would work because OW becomes the sound for words like OUT, which become OWT or SHOUT, which becomes SHOWT. (The word SHOW becomes SHO (with a little line over the O to make it long sounding). See how fun and confusing this can be?!🤣

What do you think we could use to make that OO sound in COOK, FOOT, SHOULD, COULD? As a teacher of English as a second language I bet you've had to deal with these kinds of issues many times!!

And yes, Consortium becomes Consorshum. (shortened it by one syllable haha!)

PS - Do you think it would be hard to get keyboards changed to add that line over the letters?😂

Heather, you are right there with my fictional character Joey as my favorite autodidact!

I predict Mitchell will love this!

I am also guessing you have great fun in the rabbit hole. Great job

You are 100% right, Jill. I could spend hours (actually, come to think of it, I do) in those rabbit holes. And the best part....they are everywhere!

Joey and I would be great friends!

Thank you, as always, for taking the time to read.
