Oh yay. Another George Saunders fan! I'm really looking forward to this volume of short stories. If you click the link in my post to Jane Ratcliffe's post you can read her interview with George. I think she is only making it available for 'free' for a week. You don't need to subscribe to read it.
Thanks for the whoop whoop for the D-backs. I don't get to go to their games anymore, but I do have great memories from going years ago.
And thank you so much for letting me know you enjoy the posts. I really appreciate that.
I see you have just started writing on Substack....think I'll head on over there and take a peek. 🙂
I'm just getting started here on substack, I've tried writing a newsletter gimmick off and on over the years with various services, but I'm enjoying this one the best so far! Thanks for checking it out, it's a bit niche to say the least lol.
omg sorry for the late reply! A sock who is a cop who is concerned with giving tickets to speeders! I've been doing livestreams for almost 9 years, now I'm on Twitch and Youtube. It's a family friendly internet talk show type thing where I talk about cool animals and show tapes form my VHS collection, I have lots of fun with it :)
Chopines! Yikes. At my age I am afraid I will fall off of my bedroom slippers. I was thinking that possibly chopines may have been utilized by some in Venice due to the frequency of flooded street? Maybe they were more of practical "wading" value originally? And, by the way, GO Diamondbacks! I hope they get there!
Oh, I love the idea of wading value. And since they were made of wood they might float. Now I have a picture in my mind of elegant Venetian women floating upside down in Venice. Woo Hoo!
Great newsletter. Loved reading about the Eerie Canal. Truly fascinating. Am rooting for the Diamondbacks. Am going to check out Saunders who sounds fascinating... Love reading this newsletter!
Not to change the subject but, I just found an article that I think you might find interesting, given your communications background. Researchers have found ZOOM is a poor substitute for face to face communication, but I think we intuited that already! Although Jeffrey Toobin communicated way too effectively on ZOOM, as I recall.
Well, I'll leave that Jeffrey Toobin part out to avoid politics...
But thanks for the research....which I must say has me going, "Duh". I guess it's good to have validation for something we 'intuited' on our own.
I believe that we'll keep moving closer and closer to a 'feeling' of face to face. 3-d imaging, holograms, sort of a Meta effect. I think it will happen soon, but I also believe that it won't be able to tie the score with face to face. There is too much subtle innuendo in face to face.... it's hard to imagine being able to replicate that. But hey, at one time we thought the earth was flat.
There must be a lesson about communication in that sordid incident, although I can’t imagine how one could ever be taken seriously after something like that. Most people would find a dark cave to live in and eat raw cave fish. Gollum, gollum.
Ooo, I just added Pepsi Where's my Jet to our Netflix watchlist. Thanks, Mitch!
PS - When I was a pipsqueak one of my favorite pastimes was boinging around on my Pogo Stick. I thought I was so cool....look ma, no hands lol.
Happy weekend to you too!
Oh wow. That was brave! I never tried that. I wonder if they still sell pogo sticks....
I wonder if AI is going to eliminate the fun of using tools like spirographs. Hope not.
I love reading George Saunders!
I'm not a huge baseball fan but I did live in AZ for a few years so GO D-BACKS!!
I enjoy your emails a lot, thank you!

Happy Friday....and happy weekend to you.
It was a pretty great interview!

Tell me more about Sock Cop! I'm a complete newbie to what you are doing and admit to being a little dazed and confused lol!

The flood is over
the land is dry
So why do you wear
Your shoes so high?
Good one!
Chopines, you say. Sheet rockers still use them. https://a.co/d/4Z7whnR
Hah!

Thanks so much, Jill. Happy Weekend!

Thanks for sharing the link. Quite interesting!
I mentioned Jeffrey only in the context of ZOOM miscommunication, and definitely not because of politics. 😕
👍. Sorry if I misunderstood.😊
😏 he's famous for his ZOOM call!
Don't know where I was when that happened, but apparently not watching the coverage. I am enlightened. Thank you, I think... 🤣
I hope not truly enlightened. 🤪

Chopine! The platform shoe was not invented in the 70s after all. I had no idea. Just bought my first Saunders book, Lincoln in the Bardo.
Great piece.
Yes, women have been breaking ankles for a long time!
I haven't read that. Would love to get your 'review'.
Thank you. 🤍
